PostgreSQL provides set of template index access methods, where opclasses have
much freedom in the semantics of indexing. These index AMs are GiST, GIN,
SP-GiST and BRIN. There opclasses define representation of keys, operations on
them and supported search strategies. So, it's natural that opclasses may be
faced some tradeoffs, which require user-side decision. This commit implements
opclass parameters allowing users to set some values, which tell opclass how to
index the particular dataset.
This commit doesn't introduce new storage in system catalog. Instead it uses
pg_attribute.attoptions, which is used for table column storage options but
unused for index attributes.
In order to evade changing signature of each opclass support function, we
implement unified way to pass options to opclass support functions. Options
are set to fn_expr as the constant bytea expression. It's possible due to the
fact that opclass support functions are executed outside of expressions, so
fn_expr is unused for them.
This commit comes with some examples of opclass options usage. We parametrize
signature length in GiST. That applies to multiple opclasses: tsvector_ops,
gist__intbig_ops, gist_ltree_ops, gist__ltree_ops, gist_trgm_ops and
gist_hstore_ops. Also we parametrize maximum number of integer ranges for
gist__int_ops. However, the main future usage of this feature is expected
to be json, where users would be able to specify which way to index particular
json parts.

I'd supposed that people would do this manually when creating new operator
classes, but the folly of that was exposed today. The tests seem fast
enough that we can just apply them during the normal regression tests.
contrib/isn fails the checks for lack of complete sets of cross-type
operators. That's a nice-to-have policy rather than a functional
requirement, so leave it as-is, but insert ORDER BY in the query to
ensure consistent cross-platform output.

Commit e09996ff8d was one brick shy of a load: it didn't insist
that the detected JSON number be the whole of the supplied string.
This allowed inputs such as "2016-01-01" to be misdetected as valid JSON
numbers. Per bug #13906 from Dmitry Ryabov.
In passing, be more wary of zero-length input (I'm not sure this can
happen given current callers, but better safe than sorry), and do some
minor cosmetic cleanup.
The new format accepts exactly the same data as the json type. However, it is
stored in a format that does not require reparsing the orgiginal text in order
to process it, making it much more suitable for indexing and other operations.
Insignificant whitespace is discarded, and the order of object keys is not
preserved. Neither are duplicate object keys kept - the later value for a given
key is the only one stored.
The new type has all the functions and operators that the json type has,
with the exception of the json generation functions (to_json, json_agg etc.)
and with identical semantics. In addition, there are operator classes for
hash and btree indexing, and two classes for GIN indexing, that have no
equivalent in the json type.
This feature grew out of previous work by Oleg Bartunov and Teodor Sigaev, which
was intended to provide similar facilities to a nested hstore type, but which
in the end proved to have some significant compatibility issues.

hstore_to_json(hstore) -> json (also used as a cast)
hstore_to_json_loose(hstore) -> json
The last provides heuristic treatment of numbers and booleans.
Also, in json generation, if any non-builtin type has a cast to json,
that function is used instead of the type's output function.

The hstore and json datatypes both have record-conversion functions that
pay attention to column names in the composite values they're handed.
We used to not worry about inserting correct field names into tuple
descriptors generated at runtime, but given these examples it seems
useful to do so. Observe the nicer-looking results in the regression
tests whose results changed.
catversion bump because there is a subtle change in requirements for stored
rule parsetrees: RowExprs from ROW() constructs now have to include field
names.

This isn't fully tested as yet, in particular I'm not sure that the
"foo--unpackaged--1.0.sql" scripts are OK. But it's time to get some
buildfarm cycles on it.
sepgsql is not converted to an extension, mainly because it seems to
require a very nonstandard installation process.

In particular, make hstore @> '' succeed for all hstores, likewise
hstore ?& '{}'. Previously the results were inconsistent and could
depend on whether you were using a GiST index, GIN index, or seqscan.
Remove the 64K limit on the lengths of keys and values within an hstore.
(This changes the on-disk format, but the old format can still be read.)
Add support for btree/hash opclasses for hstore --- this is not so much
for actual indexing purposes as to allow use of GROUP BY, DISTINCT, etc.
Add various other new functions and operators.
