166c0b98fd Don't generate an unnecessary Diffie-Hellman key in TLS 1.3 clients.
tls_parse_stoc_key_share was generating a new EVP_PKEY public/private
keypair and then overrides it with the server public key, so the
generation was a waste anyway. Instead, it should create a
parameters-only EVP_PKEY.

(This is a consequence of OpenSSL using the same type for empty key,
empty key with key type, empty key with key type + parameters, public
key, and private key. As a result, it's easy to mistakenly mix such
things up, as happened here.)

6f34d7bc7d Revert "Delay setting the sig algs until after the cert_cb has been called"
This reverts commit 524006dd1b.

While this change did prevent the sigalgs from getting inadvertently
clobbered by SSL_set_SSL_CTX(), it also caused the sigalgs to not be
set when the cert_cb runs.  This, in turn, caused significant breakage,
such as SSL_check_chain() failing to find any valid chain.  An alternate
approach to fixing the issue from #7244 will follow.

cd0fb43cbe Following the previous 2 commits also move ecpointformats out of session
The previous 2 commits moved supported groups and ciphers out of the
session object to avoid race conditions. We now also move ecpointformats
for consistency. There does not seem to be a race condition with access
to this data since it is only ever set in a non-resumption handshake.
However, there is no reason for it to be in the session.

eee2a6a718 Fix a race condition in ciphers handling
Similarly to the previous commit we were storing the peer offered list
of ciphers in the session. In practice there is no need for this
information to be avilable from one resumption to the next since this
list is specific to a particular handshake. Since the session object is
supposed to be immutable we should not be updating it once we have decided
to resume. The solution is to remove the session list out of the session
object.

45436e611b Fix a race condition in supported groups handling
In TLSv1.3 the supported groups can be negotiated each time a handshake
occurs, regardless of whether we are resuming or not. We should not store
the supported groups information in the session because session objects
can be shared between multiple threads and we can end up with race
conditions. For most users this won't be seen because, by default, we
use stateless tickets in TLSv1.3 which don't get shared. However if you
use SSL_OP_NO_TICKET (to get stateful tickets in TLSv1.3) then this can
happen.

The answer is to move the supported the supported group information into
the SSL object instead.

dbc6268f68 Allow TLSv1.3 in a no-ec build
Now that we have TLSv1.3 FFDHE support there is no reason why we should
not allow TLSv1.3 to be used in a no-ec build. This commit enables that
to happen.

It also fixes no-ec which was previously broken.

d5e5e2ffaf Move digests to providers
Move digest code into the relevant providers (fips, default, legacy).
The headers are temporarily moved to be internal, and will be moved
into providers after all external references are resolved. The deprecated
digest code can not be removed until EVP_PKEY (signing) is supported by
providers. EVP_MD data can also not yet be cleaned up for the same reasons.

feb9e31c40 Defer sending a KeyUpdate until after pending writes are complete
If we receive a KeyUpdate message (update requested) from the peer while
we are in the middle of a write, we should defer sending the responding
KeyUpdate message until after the current write is complete. We do this
by waiting to send the KeyUpdate until the next time we write and there is
no pending write data.

This does imply a subtle change in behaviour. Firstly the responding
KeyUpdate message won't be sent straight away as it is now. Secondly if
the peer sends multiple KeyUpdates without us doing any writing then we
will only send one response, as opposed to previously where we sent a
response for each KeyUpdate received.

555cbb328e Collapse ssl3_state_st (s3) into ssl_st
With the removal of SSLv2, the s3 structure is always allocated, so
there is little point in having it be an allocated pointer. Collapse
the ssl3_state_st structure into ssl_st and fixup any references.

This should be faster than going through an indirection and due to
fewer allocations, but I'm not seeing any significant performance
improvement; it seems to be within the margin of error in timing.

c96ce52ce2 Don't write the tick_identity to the session
Sessions must be immutable once they can be shared with multiple threads.
We were breaking that rule by writing the ticket index into it during the
handshake. This can lead to incorrect behaviour, including failed
connections in multi-threaded environments.

3409a5ff8a Don't restrict the number of KeyUpdate messages we can process
Prior to this commit we were keeping a count of how many KeyUpdates we
have processed and failing if we had had too many. This simplistic approach
is not sufficient for long running connections. Since many KeyUpdates
would not be a particular good DoS route anyway, the simplest solution is
to simply remove the key update count.

088dfa1335 Add option to disable Extended Master Secret
Add SSL_OP64_NO_EXTENDED_MASTER_SECRET, that can be set on either
an SSL or an SSL_CTX. When processing a ClientHello, if this flag
is set, do not indicate that the EMS TLS extension was received in
either the ssl3 object or the SSL_SESSION.  Retain most of the
sanity checks between the previous and current session during
session resumption, but weaken the check when the current SSL
object is configured to not use EMS.

4af5836b55 Don't signal SSL_CB_HANDSHAKE_START for TLSv1.3 post-handshake messages
The original 1.1.1 design was to use SSL_CB_HANDSHAKE_START and
SSL_CB_HANDSHAKE_DONE to signal start/end of a post-handshake message
exchange in TLSv1.3. Unfortunately experience has shown that this confuses
some applications who mistake it for a TLSv1.2 renegotiation. This means
that KeyUpdate messages are not handled properly.

This commit removes the use of SSL_CB_HANDSHAKE_START and
SSL_CB_HANDSHAKE_DONE to signal the start/end of a post-handshake
message exchange. Individual post-handshake messages are still signalled in
the normal way.

This is a potentially breaking change if there are any applications already
written that expect to see these TLSv1.3 events. However, without it,
KeyUpdate is not currently usable for many applications.

terminating NULL character into account.
Please note that this fix breaks interoperability with older

7835e97b6f Don't artificially limit the size of the ClientHello
We were setting a limit of SSL3_RT_MAX_PLAIN_LENGTH on the size of the
ClientHello. AFAIK there is nothing in the standards that requires this
limit.

The limit goes all the way back to when support for extensions was first
added for TLSv1.0. It got converted into a WPACKET max size in 1.1.1. Most
likely it was originally added to avoid the complexity of having to grow
the init_buf in the middle of adding extensions. With WPACKET this is
irrelevant since it will grow automatically.

This issue came up when an attempt was made to send a very large
certificate_authorities extension in the ClientHello.

We should just remove the limit.

23fed8ba0e Don't complain if we receive the cryptopro extension in the ClientHello
The cryptopro extension is supposed to be unsolicited and appears in the
ServerHello only. Additionally it is unofficial and unregistered - therefore
we should really treat it like any other unknown extension if we see it in
the ClientHello.

9873297900 Separate ca_names handling for client and server
SSL(_CTX)?_set_client_CA_list() was a server side only function in 1.1.0.
If it was called on the client side then it was ignored. In 1.1.1 it now
makes sense to have a CA list defined for both client and server (the
client now sends it the the TLSv1.3 certificate_authorities extension).
Unfortunately some applications were using the same SSL_CTX for both
clients and servers and this resulted in some client ClientHellos being
excessively large due to the number of certificate authorities being sent.

This commit seperates out the CA list updated by
SSL(_CTX)?_set_client_CA_list() and the more generic
SSL(_CTX)?_set0_CA_list(). This means that SSL(_CTX)?_set_client_CA_list()
still has no effect on the client side. If both CA lists are set then
SSL(_CTX)?_set_client_CA_list() takes priority.

de4dc59802 Don't negotiate TLSv1.3 if our EC cert isn't TLSv1.3 capable
TLSv1.3 is more restrictive about the curve used. There must be a matching
sig alg defined for that curve. Therefore if we are using some other curve
in our certificate then we should not negotiate TLSv1.3.

589b6227a8 Ignore disabled ciphers when deciding if we are using ECC
use_ecc() was always returning 1 because there are default (TLSv1.3)
ciphersuites that use ECC - even if those ciphersuites are disabled by
other options.

2aaa0b146b Restore sensible "sess_accept" counter tracking
Commit 9ef9088c15 switched the SSL/SSL_CTX
statistics counters to using Thread-Sanitizer-friendly primitives.
However, it erroneously converted an addition of -1
(for s->session_ctx->stats.sess_accept) to an addition of +1, since that
is the only counter API provided by the internal tsan_assist.h header
until the previous commit.  This means that for each accepted (initial)
connection, the session_ctx's counter would get doubly incremented, and the
(switched) ctx's counter would also get incremented.

Restore the counter decrement so that each accepted connection increments
exactly one counter exactly once (in net effect).

e45620140f Don't call the client_cert_cb immediately in TLSv1.3
In TLSv1.2 and below a CertificateRequest is sent after the Certificate
from the server. This means that by the time the client_cert_cb is called
on receipt of the CertificateRequest a call to SSL_get_peer_certificate()
will return the server certificate as expected. In TLSv1.3 a
CertificateRequest is sent before a Certificate message so calling
SSL_get_peer_certificate() returns NULL.

To workaround this we delay calling the client_cert_cb until after we
have processed the CertificateVerify message, when we are doing TLSv1.3.

f01344cb5c Do not reset SNI data in SSL_do_handshake()
PR #3783 introduce coded to reset the server side SNI state in
SSL_do_handshake() to ensure any erroneous config time SNI changes are
cleared. Unfortunately SSL_do_handshake() can be called mid-handshake
multiple times so this is the wrong place to do this and can mean that
any SNI data is cleared later on in the handshake too.

Therefore move the code to a more appropriate place.

2c0267fdc9 Restore historical SSL_get_servername() behavior
Commit 1c4aa31d79 modified the state machine
to clean up stale ext.hostname values from SSL objects in the case when
SNI was not negotiated for the current handshake.  This is natural from
the TLS perspective, since this information is an extension that the client
offered but we ignored, and since we ignored it we do not need to keep it
around for anything else.

However, as documented in https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/7014 ,
there appear to be some deployed code that relies on retrieving such an
ignored SNI value from the client, after the handshake has completed.
Because the 1.1.1 release is on a stable branch and should preserve the
published ABI, restore the historical behavior by retaining the ext.hostname
value sent by the client, in the SSL structure, for subsequent retrieval.

1bf4cb0fe3 Process KeyUpdate and NewSessionTicket messages after a close_notify
If we've sent a close_notify then we are restricted about what we can do
in response to handshake messages that we receive. However we can sensibly
process NewSessionTicket messages. We can also process a KeyUpdate message
as long as we also ignore any request for us to update our sending keys.

f273ff953a Ignore EPIPE when sending NewSessionTickets in TLSv1.3
If a client sends data to a server and then immediately closes without
waiting to read the NewSessionTickets then the server can receive EPIPE
when trying to write the tickets and never gets the opportunity to read
the data that was sent. Therefore we ignore EPIPE when writing out the
tickets in TLSv1.3

b5b993b229 Use the same min-max version range on the client consistently
We need to ensure that the min-max version range we use when constructing
the ClientHello is the same range we use when we validate the version
selected by the ServerHello. Otherwise this may appear as a fallback or
downgrade.

32097b33bd Change Post Handshake auth so that it is opt-in
Having post handshake auth automatically switched on breaks some
applications written for TLSv1.2. This changes things so that an explicit
function call is required for a client to indicate support for
post-handshake auth.

7426cd343d Ensure that we write out alerts correctly after early_data
If we sent early_data and then received back an HRR, the enc_write_ctx
was stale resulting in errors if an alert needed to be sent.

Thanks to Quarkslab for reporting this.

In any case it makes little sense to encrypt alerts using the
client_early_traffic_secret, so we add special handling for alerts sent
after early_data. All such alerts are sent in plaintext.

1c4aa31d79 Normalize SNI hostname handling for SSL and SSL_SESSION
In particular, adhere to the rule that we must not modify any
property of an SSL_SESSION object once it is (or might be) in
a session cache.  Such modifications are thread-unsafe and have
been observed to cause crashes at runtime.

To effect this change, standardize on the property that
SSL_SESSION->ext.hostname is set only when that SNI value
has been negotiated by both parties for use with that session.
For session resumption this is trivially the case, so only new
handshakes are affected.

On the client, the new semantics are that the SSL->ext.hostname is
for storing the value configured by the caller, and this value is
used when constructing the ClientHello.  On the server, SSL->ext.hostname
is used to hold the value received from the client.  Only if the
SNI negotiation is successful will the hostname be stored into the
session object; the server can do this after it sends the ServerHello,
and the client after it has received and processed the ServerHello.

This obviates the need to remove the hostname from the session object
in case of failed negotiation (a change that was introduced in commit
9fb6cb810b in order to allow TLS 1.3
early data when SNI was present in the ClientHello but not the session
being resumed), which was modifying cached sessions in certain cases.
(In TLS 1.3 we always produce a new SSL_SESSION object for new
connections, even in the case of resumption, so no TLS 1.3 handshakes
were affected.)

84475ccb70 Don't remove sessions from the cache during PHA in TLSv1.3
If we issue new tickets due to post-handshake authentication there is no
reason to remove previous tickets from the cache. The code that did that

4ff1a52666 Fix TLSv1.3 ticket nonces
All tickets on a connection need to have a unique nonce. When this was
originally implemented we only ever sent one ticket on the conneciton so
this didn't matter. We were just using the value 0. Now we can get multiple
tickets to we need to start doing the ticket nonce properly.

a925e7dbf4 Don't memcpy the contents of an empty fragment
In DTLS if we have buffered a fragment for a zero length message (e.g.
ServerHelloDone) then, when we unbuffered the fragment, we were attempting
to memcpy the contents of the fragment which is zero length and a NULL
pointer. This is undefined behaviour. We should check first whether we
have a zero length fragment.

Fixes a travis issue.

447cc0ad73 In a reneg use the same client_version we used last time
In 1.0.2 and below we always send the same client_version in a reneg
ClientHello that we sent the first time around, regardless of what
version eventually gets negotiated. According to a comment in
statem_clnt.c this is a workaround for some buggy servers that choked if
we changed the version used in the RSA encrypted premaster secret.

In 1.1.0+ this behaviour no longer occurs. This restores the original
behaviour.

803cc8c7d4 Revert commit 4a56d9a2
We have been unable to trace the contributor of that code to gain their
agreement for the licence change so the code has to be removed.

This commit reverts that contribution. The contribution had no functional
impact so the original way of doing things is still valid. However the
surrounding code has changed significantly so that the exact code as it
was orignally cannot be used. This commit uses the original code as a basis,
but rewrites it to use the PACKET API.

424afe931e Don't wait for dry at the end of a handshake
For DTLS/SCTP we were waiting for a dry event during the call to
tls_finish_handshake(). This function just tidies up various internal
things, and after it completes the handshake is over. I can find no good
reason for waiting for a dry event here, and nothing in RFC6083 suggests
to me that we should need to. More importantly though it seems to be
wrong. It is perfectly possible for a peer to send app data/alerts/new
handshake while we are still cleaning up our handshake. If this happens
then we will never get the dry event and so we cannot continue.

2e92af5ea5 Check for alerts while waiting for a dry event
At a couple of points in a DTLS/SCTP handshake we need to wait for a dry
event before continuing. However if an alert has been sent by the peer
then we will never receive that dry event and an infinite loop results.

This commit changes things so that we attempt to read a message if we
are waiting for a dry event but haven't got one yet. This should never
succeed, but any alerts will be processed.

16cfc2c90d Don't use a ssl specific DRBG anymore
Since the public and private DRBG are per thread we don't need one
per ssl object anymore. It could also try to get entropy from a DRBG
that's really from an other thread because the SSL object moved to an
other thread.

66d7de1634 Add an anti-replay mechanism
If the server is configured to allow early data then we check if the PSK
session presented by the client is available in the cache or not. If it
isn't then this may be a replay and we disallow it. If it is then we allow
it and remove the session from the cache. Note: the anti-replay protection
is not used for externally established PSKs.

32305f8850 Always call the new_session_cb when issuing a NewSessionTicket in TLSv1.3
Conceptually in TLSv1.3 there can be multiple sessions associated with a
single connection. Each NewSessionTicket issued can be considered a
separate session. We can end up issuing multiple NewSessionTickets on a
single connection at the moment (e.g. in a post-handshake auth scenario).
Each of those issued tickets should have the new_session_cb called, it
should go into the session cache separately and it should have a unique
id associated with it (so that they can be found individually in the
cache).

ee36b963ae Reuse extension_is_relevant() in should_add_extension()
At the core of things is the concept that each extension is only
defined in certain context(s) -- the ClientHello, EncryptedExtensions,
etc., and sometimes only for a specific protocol or protocol range;
we want to enforce that we only parse or generate extensions in the
context(s) for which they are defined.  There is some subtlety here,
in that the protocol version in use is not known when generating the
ClientHello (but it is known when the ClientHello extensions are
being parsed!), so the SSL_IS_TLS13() macro must be used with caution.
Nonetheless, by making assertions about whether we are acting in a
server role and whether the current context is (not) a ClientHello,
we can consolidate almost all of the logic for determining whether
an extension is permitted in a given protocol message, whether we
are generating or parsing that message.

The only logic that remains separate relates to generating the ClientHello,
as it depends on an external factor (the maximum permitted TLS version) that
is not defined in the parsing context.

5de683d2c6 Fix status_request and SCT extensions
They are valid for use in a CertificateRequest message, but we did not
allow it. If a server sent such a message using either of those two
extensions then the handshake would abort.

This corrects that error, but does not add support for actually processing
the extensions. They are simply ignored, and a TODO is inserted to add
support at a later time.

This was found during interoperability testing with btls:
https://gitlab.com/ilari_l/btls

Prompted by these errors I reviewed the complete list of extensions and
compared them with the latest table in draft-24 to confirm there were no
other errors of a similar type. I did not find any.

6e99ae58c8 Ignore an s_client psk in TLSv1.3 if not TLSv1.3 suitable
The s_client psk_use_session_cb callback has a comment stating that we
should ignore a key that isn't suitable for TLSv1.3. However we were
actually causing the connection to fail. Changing the return value fixes
the issue.

Also related to this is that the early_data extension was not marked as
TLSv1.3 only which it should be.

7e70213fe3 Don't overestimate the ticket age
On the client we calculate the age of the ticket in seconds but the server
may work in ms. Due to rounding errors we could overestimate the age by up
to 1s. It is better to underestimate it. Otherwise, if the RTT is very
short, when the server calculates the age reported by the client it could
be bigger than the age calculated on the server - which should never happen.

5d67110173 Don't calculate the Finished MAC twice
In <= TLSv1.2 a Finished message always comes immediately after a CCS
except in the case of NPN where there is an additional message between
the CCS and Finished. Historically we always calculated the Finished MAC
when we processed the CCS. However to deal with NPN we also calculated it
when we receive the Finished message. Really this should only have been
done if we hand negotiated NPN.

This simplifies the code to only calculate the MAC when we receive the
Finished. In 1.1.1 we need to do it this way anyway because there is no
CCS (except in middlebox compat mode) in TLSv1.3.

Coincidentally, this commit also fixes the fact that no-nextprotoneg does
not currently work in master.

9d75dce3e1 Add TLSv1.3 post-handshake authentication (PHA)
Add SSL_verify_client_post_handshake() for servers to initiate PHA

Add SSL_force_post_handshake_auth() for clients that don't have certificates
initially configured, but use a certificate callback.

Update SSL_CTX_set_verify()/SSL_set_verify() mode:

* Add SSL_VERIFY_POST_HANDSHAKE to postpone client authentication until after
the initial handshake.

* Update SSL_VERIFY_CLIENT_ONCE now only sends out one CertRequest regardless
of when the certificate authentication takes place; either initial handshake,
re-negotiation, or post-handshake authentication.

Add 'RequestPostHandshake' and 'RequirePostHandshake' SSL_CONF options that
add the SSL_VERIFY_POST_HANDSHAKE to the 'Request' and 'Require' options

Add support to s_client:
* Enabled automatically when cert is configured
* Can be forced enabled via -force_pha

Add support to s_server:
* Use 'c' to invoke PHA in s_server
* Remove some dead code

Update documentation

Update unit tests:
* Illegal use of PHA extension
* TLSv1.3 certificate tests

DTLS and TLS behave ever-so-slightly differently. So, when DTLS1.3 is
implemented, it's PHA support state machine may need to be different.
Add a TODO and a #error

Update handshake context to deal with PHA.

The handshake context for TLSv1.3 post-handshake auth is up through the
ClientFinish message, plus the CertificateRequest message. Subsequent
Certificate, CertificateVerify, and Finish messages are based on this
handshake context (not the Certificate message per se, but it's included
after the hash). KeyUpdate, NewSessionTicket, and prior Certificate
Request messages are not included in post-handshake authentication.

After the ClientFinished message is processed, save off the digest state
for future post-handshake authentication. When post-handshake auth occurs,
copy over the saved handshake context into the "main" handshake digest.
This effectively discards the any KeyUpdate or NewSessionTicket messages
and any prior post-handshake authentication.

This, of course, assumes that the ID-22 did not mean to include any
previous post-handshake authentication into the new handshake transcript.
This is implied by section 4.4.1 that lists messages only up to the
first ClientFinished.

3faa07b582 Move decisions about whether to accept reneg into the state machine
If a server receives an unexpected ClientHello then we may or may not
accept it. Make sure all such decisions are made in the state machine
and not in the record layer. This also removes a disparity between the
TLS and the DTLS code. The TLS code was making this decision in the
record layer, while the DTLS code was making it later.

Finally it also solves a problem where a warning alert was being sent
during tls_setup_handshake() and the function was returning a failure
return code. This is problematic because it can be called from a
transition function - which we only allow fatal errors to occur in.

c589c34e61 Add support for the TLS 1.3 signature_algorithms_cert extension
The new extension is like signature_algorithms, but only for the
signature *on* the certificate we will present to the peer (the
old signature_algorithms extension is still used for signatures that
we *generate*, i.e., those over TLS data structures).

We do not need to generate this extension, since we are the same
implementation as our X.509 stack and can handle the same types
of signatures, but we need to be prepared to receive it, and use the received
information when selecting what certificate to present.

There is a lot of interplay between signature_algorithms_cert and
signature_algorithms, since both affect what certificate we can
use, and thus the resulting signature algorithm used for TLS messages.
So, apply signature_algorithms_cert (if present) as a filter on what
certificates we can consider when choosing a certificate+sigalg
pair.

As part of this addition, we also remove the fallback code that let
keys of type EVP_PKEY_RSA be used to generate RSA-PSS signatures -- the
new rsa_pss_pss_* and rsa_pss_rsae_* signature schemes have pulled
the key type into what is covered by the signature algorithm, so
we should not apply this sort of compatibility workaround.

7bc2bddb14 Permit the "supported_groups" extension in ServerHellos
Although this is forbidden by all three(!) relevant specifications,
there seem to be multiple server implementations in the wild that
send it.  Since we didn't check for unexpected extensions in any
given message type until TLS 1.3 support was added, our previous
behavior was to silently accept these extensions and pass them over
to the custom extension callback (if any).  In order to avoid
regression of functionality, relax the check for "extension in
unexpected context" for this specific case, but leave the protocol
enforcment mechanism unchanged for other extensions and in other
extension contexts.

Leave a detailed comment to indicate what is going on.

2a8db71713 Don't flush the ClientHello if we're going to send early data
We'd like the first bit of early_data and the ClientHello to go in the
same TCP packet if at all possible to enable things like TCP Fast Open.
Also, if you're only going to send one block of early data then you also
don't need to worry about TCP_NODELAY.

88050dd196 Update ServerHello to new draft-22 format
The new ServerHello format is essentially now the same as the old TLSv1.2
one, but it must additionally include supported_versions. The version
field is fixed at TLSv1.2, and the version negotiation happens solely via
supported_versions.

e1dd8fa00a Fix the check_fatal macro
The check_fatal macro is supposed to only be called if we are already
expecting to be in the fatal state. The macro asserts that we are and
puts us into the fatal state if not.

This issue combined with the problem fixed in the previous commit meant
that the fuzzer detected a crash at a point in the processing when we
should have already been in the fatal state.

1f359471f9 Provide an SSLfatal() macro
Typically if a fatal error occurs three things need to happen:

- Put an error on the error queue
- Send an alert
- Put the state machine into the error state

Although all 3 of these things need to be done every time we hit a fatal
error the responsibilities for doing this are distributed throughout the
code. The place where the error goes on the queue, where the alert gets
sent and where the state machine goes into the error state are almost
invariably different. It has been a common pattern to pass alert codes up
and down the stack to get the alert information from the point in the code
where the error is detected to the point in the code where the alert gets
sent.

This commit provides an SSLfatal() macro (backed by an ossl_statem_fatal
function) that does all 3 of the above error tasks. This is largely a drop
in replacement for SSLerr, but takes a couple of extra parameters (the SSL
object, and an alert code).

281bf2332c If a server is not acknowledging SNI then don't reject early_data
SNI needs to be consistent before we accept early_data. However a
server may choose to not acknowledge SNI. In that case we have to
expect that a client may send it anyway. We change the consistency
checks so that not acknowledging is treated more a like a "wild card",
accepting any SNI as being consistent.

bfab12bb7d Allow a client to send early_data with SNI if the session has no SNI
We can only send early_data if the SNI is consistent. However it is valid
for the client to set SNI and the server to not use it. This would still be
counted as consistent. OpenSSL client was being overzealous in this check
and disallowing this scenario.

3be08e3011 Provide SSL_CTX.stats.sess_accept for switched ctxs
We currently increment the SSL_CTX stats.sess_accept field in
tls_setup_handshake(), which is invoked from the state machine well
before ClientHello processing would have had a chance to switch
the SSL_CTX attached to the SSL object due to a provided SNI value.
However, stats.sess_accept_good is incremented in tls_finish_handshake(),
and uses the s->ctx.stats field (i.e., the new SSL_CTX that was switched
to as a result of SNI processing).  This leads to the confusing
(nonsensical) situation where stats.sess_accept_good is larger than
stats.sess_accept, as the "sess_accept" value was counted on the
s->session_ctx.

In order to provide some more useful numbers, increment
s->ctx.stats.sess_accept after SNI processing if the SNI processing
changed s->ctx to differ from s->session_ctx.  To preserve the
property that any given accept is counted only once, make the
corresponding decrement to s->session_ctx.stats.sess_accept when
doing so.

0e6161bcae Normalize on session_ctx for stats where possible
For client SSL objects and before any callbacks have had a chance
to be called, we can write the stats accesses using the session_ctx,
which makes sense given that these values are all prefixed with
"sess_".

For servers after a client_hello or servername callback has been
called, retain the existing behavior of modifying the statistics
for the current (non-session) context.  This has some value,
in that it allows the statistics to be viewed on a per-vhost level.

a2b97bdf3d Don't do version neg on an HRR
Previously if a client received an HRR then we would do version negotiation
immediately - because we know we are going to get TLSv1.3. However this
causes a problem when we emit the 2nd ClientHello because we start changing
a whole load of stuff to ommit things that aren't relevant for < TLSv1.3.
The spec requires that the 2nd ClientHello is the same except for changes
required from the HRR. Therefore the simplest thing to do is to defer the
version negotiation until we receive the ServerHello.

a84e5c9aa8 Session resume broken switching contexts
When an SSL's context is swtiched from a ticket-enabled context to
a ticket-disabled context in the servername callback, no session-id
is generated, so the session can't be resumed.

If a servername callback changes the SSL_OP_NO_TICKET option, check
to see if it's changed to disable, and whether a session ticket is
expected (i.e. the client indicated ticket support and the SSL had
tickets enabled at the time), and whether we already have a previous
session (i.e. s->hit is set).

In this case, clear the ticket-expected flag, remove any ticket data
and generate a session-id in the session.

If the SSL hit (resumed) and switched to a ticket-disabled context,
assume that the resumption was via session-id, and don't bother to
update the session.

Before this fix, the updated unit-tests in 06-sni-ticket.conf would
fail test #4 (server1 = SNI, server2 = no SNI).

1c259bb518 Restore historical behavior for absent ServerHello extensions
In OpenSSL 1.1.0, when there were no extensions added to the ServerHello,
we did not write the extension data length bytes to the end of the
ServerHello; this is needed for compatibility with old client implementations
that do not support TLS extensions (such as the default configuration of
OpenSSL 0.9.8).  When ServerHello extension construction was converted
to the new extensions framework in commit
7da160b0f4, this behavior was inadvertently
limited to cases when SSLv3 was negotiated (and similarly for ClientHellos),
presumably since extensions are not defined at all for SSLv3.  However,
extensions for TLS prior to TLS 1.3 have been defined in separate
RFCs (6066, 4366, and 3546) from the TLS protocol specifications, and as such
should be considered an optional protocol feature in those cases.

Accordingly, be conservative in what we send, and skip the extensions block
when there are no extensions to be sent, regardless of the TLS/SSL version.
(TLS 1.3 requires extensions and can safely be treated differently.)

10ed1b7239 Reorder extensions to put SigAlgs last
Force non-empty padding extension.
When enabled, force the padding extension to be at least 1 byte long.
WebSphere application server cannot handle having an empty
extension (e.g. EMS/EtM) as the last extension in a client hello.

5626f634c3 Move ALPN handling from finalizer to delayed call
Commit 02f0274e8c moved ALPN processing
into an extension finalization function, as the only documented ordering
requirement from previous commits was that ALPN processing occur after
SNI processing, and SNI processing is performed before the extension
finalization step.  However, it is useful for applications'
alpn_select callbacks to run after ciphersuite selection as well -- at
least one application protocol specification (HTTP/2) imposes restrictions
on which ciphersuites are usable with that protocol.  Since it is generally
more preferrable to have a successful TLS connection with a default application
protocol than to fail the TLS connection and not be able to have the preferred
application protocol, it is good to give the alpn_select callback information
about the ciphersuite to be used, so that appropriate restrctions can be
enforced in application code.

Accordingly, split the ALPN handling out into a separate tls_handl_alpn()
function akin to tls_handle_status_request(), called from
tls_post_process_client_hello().  This is an alternative to resuscitating
ssl_check_clienthello_tlsext_late(), something of an awkwward name itself.

e3743355e8 Don't modify resumed session objects
If s->hit is set, s->session corresponds to a session created on
a previous connection, and is a data structure that is potentially
shared across other SSL objects.  As such, there are thread-safety
issues with modifying the structure without taking its lock (and
of course all corresponding read accesses would also need to take
the lock as well), which have been observed to cause double-frees.

Regardless of thread-safety, the resumed session object is intended
to reflect parameters of the connection that created the session,
and modifying it to reflect the parameters from the current connection
is confusing.  So, modifications to the session object during
ClientHello processing should only be performed on new connections,
i.e., those where s->hit is not set.

The code mostly got this right, providing such checks when processing
SNI and EC point formats, but the supported groups (formerly
supported curves) extension was missing it, which is fixed by this commit.

However, TLS 1.3 makes the suppported_groups extension mandatory
(when using (EC)DHE, which is the normal case), checking for the group
list in the key_share extension processing.  But, TLS 1.3 only [0] supports
session tickets for session resumption, so the session object in question
is the output of d2i_SSL_SESSION(), and will not be shared across SSL
objects.  Thus, it is safe to modify s->session for TLS 1.3 connections.

[0] A psk_find_session callback can also be used, but the restriction that
each callback execution must produce a distinct SSL_SESSION structure
can be documented when the psk_find_session callback documentation is
completed.

ae3947de09 Add a DRBG to each SSL object
Give each SSL object it's own DRBG, chained to the parent global
DRBG which is used only as a source of randomness into the per-SSL
DRBG.  This is used for all session, ticket, and pre-master secret keys.
It is NOT used for ECDH key generation which use only the global
DRBG. (Doing that without changing the API is tricky, if not impossible.)

75e2c87765 Switch from ossl_rand to DRBG rand
If RAND_add wraps around, XOR with existing. Add test to drbgtest that
does the wrap-around.

Re-order seeding and stop after first success.

Add RAND_poll_ex()

Use the DF and therefore lower RANDOMNESS_NEEDED.  Also, for child DRBG's,
mix in the address as the personalization bits.

Centralize the entropy callbacks, from drbg_lib to rand_lib.
(Conceptually, entropy is part of the enclosing application.)
Thanks to Dr. Matthias St Pierre for the suggestion.

Various code cleanups:
    -Make state an enum; inline RANDerr calls.
    -Add RAND_POLL_RETRIES (thanks Pauli for the idea)
    -Remove most RAND_seed calls from rest of library
    -Rename DRBG_CTX to RAND_DRBG, etc.
    -Move some code from drbg_lib to drbg_rand; drbg_lib is now only the
     implementation of NIST DRBG.
    -Remove blocklength

b93a295a36 Fix SSL_set_tlsext_debug_callback/-tlsextdebug
Some extensions were being displayed twice, before they were parsed, and
again after they were parsed.
The supported_versions extension was not being fully displayed, as it
was processed differently than other extensions.

Move the debug callback to where the extensions are first collected, to
catch all the extensions as they come in, so they are ordered correctly.

00848ea842 Tolerate a zero length ticket nonce
TLSv1.3 draft-21 requires the ticket nonce to be at least 1 byte in length.
However NSS sends a zero length nonce. This is actually ok because the next
draft will allow zero length nonces anyway, so we should tolerate this.
