c88f6f0e40 TEST: skip POSIX errcode zero in tesst/recipes/02-test_errstr.t
On most systems, there is no E macro for errcode zero in <errno.h>,
which means that it seldom comes up here. However, reports indicate
that some platforms do have an E macro for errcode zero.
With perl, errcode zero is a bit special. Perl consistently gives
the empty string for that one, while the C strerror() may give back
something else. The easiest way to deal with that possible mismatch
is to skip this errcode.

b968945204 EVP: Expand the use of EVP_PKEY_CTX_md()
Setting a hash function was reserved for signature operations.
However, it turns out that SM2 uses a hash function for encryption and
decryption as well.
Therefore, EVP_PKEY_CTX_md() must be called with an expanded operation
type combination that includes EVP_PKEY_OP_TYPE_CRYPT when used in a
generic way.

For SM2, test/recipes/30-test_evp_data/evppkey_sm2.txt is expanded to
test decryption both with an implicit and an explicit digest.

We want to perform the same tests with a provider implementation, and
also make sure that an ENGINE implementation works as advertised.

OSSL_STORE_open() / OSSL_STORE_open_wirh_libctx() work in such a way
that they look for internal / engine implementations first, and only
failing that, they will try to fetch a provider implementation. This
ensures that when we do specify an engine, it gets exceptional priority.

e6ed04a9dc TEST: separate out NIST ECC tests from non-NIST
ECC keys with non-NIST group names aren't supported when running with
the FIPS provider.

Keys with such groups that are included in evp_test stanza files
aren't even possible to decode if provider side decoders are used,
since those depend on available EVP_KEYMGMT implementations and what
they support.

Those keys could only be decoded because the legacy decoders were
used.

To make these tests future proof, we separate out the stanzas having
keys with NIST approved group names into separate files, and adjust
the file lists in test/recipes/30-test_evp.t aaccordingly.

38145fba0a Fix DSA/DH so that legacy keys can still be generated by the default provider
Fixes #12589

The 'type' parameter needed to be propagated to the ffc params during keygen,
so that the simple validation of params done during keygen can handle legacy keys for the default provider.
The fips provider ignores this change and only allows fips186-4 approved sizes.

04cb5ec0b7 Add 'on demand self test' and status test to providers
The default and legacy providers currently return 1 for status and self test checks.
Added test to show the 3 different stages the self test can be run (for installation, loading and on demand).

For the fips provider:
  - If the on demand self test fails, then any subsequent fetches should also fail. To implement this the
    cached algorithms are flushed on failure.
  - getting the self test callback in the fips provider is a bit complicated since the callback hangs off the core
    libctx (as it is set by the application) not the actual fips library context. Also the callback can be set at
    any time not just during the OSSL_provider_init() so it is calculated each time before doing any self test.

7d615e2178 rand_drbg: remove RAND_DRBG.
The RAND_DRBG API did not fit well into the new provider concept as
implemented by EVP_RAND and EVP_RAND_CTX. The main reason is that the
RAND_DRBG API is a mixture of 'front end' and 'back end' API calls
and some of its API calls are rather low-level. This holds in particular
for the callback mechanism (RAND_DRBG_set_callbacks()) and the RAND_DRBG
type changing mechanism (RAND_DRBG_set()).

Adding a compatibility layer to continue supporting the RAND_DRBG API as
a legacy API for a regular deprecation period turned out to come at the
price of complicating the new provider API unnecessarily. Since the
RAND_DRBG API exists only since version 1.1.1, it was decided by the OMC
to drop it entirely.

Other related changes:

Use RNG instead of DRBG in EVP_RAND documentation. The documentation was
using DRBG in places where it should have been RNG or CSRNG.

Move the RAND_DRBG(7) documentation to EVP_RAND(7).

5a23d78c9b TEST: Add new serializer and deserializer test
This test revolves around a central function that will first serialize
an EVP_PKEY, then deserialize the result into a new EVP_PKEY and
compare the two.

The following tests are currently implemented:

1.  EVP_PKEY (RSA) -> DER, then DER -> EVP_PKEY (RSA).
2.  EVP_PKEY (RSA) -> PEM, then PEM -> EVP_PKEY (RSA).
    This one exercises deserializer chains, as we know that there is a
    PEM -> DER and a DER -> EVP_PKEY (RSA) deserializer, but no direct
    PEM -> EVP_PKEY (RSA) deserializer.

Additionally, a small fix in test_fail_string_common(), as strcmp()
could run past a buffer if one of the strings isn't terminated with
a null byte within the given length.

90409da6a5 Fix provider cipher reinit issue
Fixes #12405
Fixes #12377

Calling Init()/Update() and then Init()/Update() again gave a different result when using the same key and iv.
Cipher modes that were using ctx->num were not resetting this value, this includes OFB, CFB & CTR.
The fix is to reset this value during the ciphers einit() and dinit() methods.
Most ciphers go thru a generic method so one line fixes most cases.

Add test for calling EVP_EncryptInit()/EVP_EncryptUpdate() multiple times for all ciphers.
Ciphers should return the same value for both updates.
DES3-WRAP does not since it uses a random in the update.
CCM modes currently also fail on the second update (This also happens in 1_1_1).

Fix memory leak in AES_OCB cipher if EVP_EncryptInit is called multiple times.

Fix AES_SIV cipher dup_ctx and init.
Calling EVP_CIPHER_init multiple times resulted in a memory leak in the siv.
Fixing this leak also showed that the dup ctx was not working for siv mode.
Note: aes_siv_cleanup() can not be used by aes_siv_dupctx() as it clears data
that is required for the decrypt (e.g the tag).

The cipher returns the mode EVP_CIPH_CBC_MODE (Internally it shares the aes_cbc cipher code). This
would allow existing code that uses AES_CBC to switch to the CTS variant without breaking code that
tests for this mode. Because it shares the aes_cbc code the cts128.c functions could not be used directly.
The cipher returns the flag EVP_CIPH_FLAG_CTS.
EVP_CIPH_FLAG_FIPS & EVP_CIPH_FLAG_NON_FIPS_ALLOW have been deprecated.

- The dsa keygen assumed valid p, q, g values were being passed. If this is not correct then it is

4f2271d58a Add ACVP fips module tests
For FIPS validation purposes - Automated Cryptographic Validation Protocol (ACVP) tests need to be
performed. (See https://github.com/usnistgov/ACVP). These tests are very similiar to the old CAVS tests.

This PR uses a hardwired subset of these test vectors to perform similiar operations,
to show the usage and prove that the API's are able to perform the required operations.
It may also help with communication with the lab (i.e- The lab could add a test here to show
a unworking use case - which we can then address).

The EVP layer performs these tests instead of calling lower level API's
as was done in the old FOM.
Some of these tests require access to internals that are not normally allowed/required.

The config option 'acvp_tests' (enabled by default) has been added so that this
access may be removed.

The mechanism has been implemented as additional OSSL_PARAM values that can be set and get.
A callback mechanism did not seem to add any additional benefit.
These params will not be added to the gettables lists.

8bf37709a4 Update RSA keygen to use sp800-56b by default
Fixes #11742
Fixes #11764

The newer RSA sp800-56b algorithm is being used for the normal case of a non multiprime key of at least length 2048.
Insecure key lengths and mutltiprime RSA will use the old method.

Bad public exponents are no longer allowed (i.e values less than 65537 or even). Values such as 2 that would cause a infinite loop now result in an error. The value of 3 has been marked as deprecated but is still allowed for legacy purposes.

f995e5bdcd TEST: Add provider_fallback_test, to test aspects of fallback providers
There are cases where the fallback providers aren't treated right.
For example, the following calls, in that order, will end up with
a failed EVP_KEYMGMT_fetch(), even thought the default provider
does supply an implementation of the "RSA" keytype.

    EVP_KEYMGMT *rsameth = NULL;

    OSSL_PROVIDER_available(NULL, "default");
    rsameth = EVP_KEYMGMT_fetch(NULL, "RSA", NULL);

For good measure, this also tests that explicit loading of the default
provider won't fail.

f32af93c92 Fix ERR_print_errors so that it matches the documented format in doc/man3/ERR_error_string.pod
Fixes #11743

The ouput format had 2 issues that caused it not to match the expected documented format:
(1) At some point the thread id printing was changed to use the OPENSSL_hex2str method which puts ':' between hex bytes.
    An internal function that skips the seperator has been added.
(2) The error code no longer exists. So this was completely removed from the string. It is now replaced by ::

As an example:

0324ffc5d5 Fix PEM certificate loading that sometimes fails
As described in https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/9187, the
loading of PEM certificates sometimes fails if a line of base64
content has the length of a multiple of 254.
The problem is in get_header_and_data(). When such a line with a
length of 254 (or a multiple) has been read, the next read will
only read a newline. Due to this get_header_and_data() expects to be
in the header not in the data area. This commit fixes that by checking
if lines have been read completely or only partially. In case of a
previous partial read, a newline will be ignored.
