b8d3cf0954 Configurations/*.tmpl: overhaul assembler make rules.
NOTE: Not Configurations/unix-Makefile.tmpl, as that was done 4 years
ago, in commit a23f03166e.

So far assembly modules were intended to be built as .pl->.S->.{asmext}
followed by .{asmext}->.o.  This posed a problem in build_all_generated
rule if it was executed on another computer, and also turned out to be
buggy, as .S was also translated to .{asmext} on Windows and VMS.
Both issues are fixed by changing the rule sequence to .pl->.S and then
.S->.s->.o, with the added benefit that the Windows and VMS build file
templates are more in sync with unix-Makefile.tmpl and slightly simpler.

b83c0a900f Fix AIX build when no-shared is passed to Configure.
AIX shared libs are also .a files so the AIX platform staticname()
appends a '_a' to the name to avoid a collision.  However, this
must not be done when no-shared is passed to Configure or the
binaries that link with -lcrypto and -lssl be unable to link as
those libraries won't exist without the '_a' suffix.

bfbb62c3b0 Configurations/platform/Unix.pm: account for variants in sharedlib_simple()
OpenSSL 1.1.1 links the simple libcrypto.so to libcrypto_variant.so,
this was inadvertently dropped.

1bbe13fce5 platform->sharedlib_simple(): return undef when same as platform->sharedlib()
On some Unix-like platforms, there is no such thing as versioned shared
libraries.  In this case, platform->sharedlib_simple() should simply
return undef.  Among others, this avoids the shared libraries to be
installed as symlinks on themselves.

2e535eb50a Configuration: rework how dependency making is handled
Previously, we had dependency making pretty much hard coded in the
build file templates, with a bit of an exception for Unix family
platforms, where we had different cases depending on what dependency
making program was found.

With the Embarcadero C++ builder, a separate scheme appeared, with a
different logic.

This change merges the two, and introduces two config target
attributes:

    makedepcmd          The program to use, where this is relevant.
                        This replaces the earlier configuration
                        attribute 'makedepprog'.
    makedep_scheme      This is a keyword that can be used by build
                        files templates to produce different sorts of
                        commands, but most importantly, to pass as
                        argument to util/add-depend.pl, which uses
                        this keyword as a "producer" for the
                        dependency lines.

If the config target doesn't define the 'makedep_scheme' attribute,
Configure tries to figure it out by looking for GCC compatible
compilers or for the 'makedepend' command.

491a1e3363 Link with .def files
MSVC's `link.exe` automatically finds `__cdecl` C functions (which are
decorated with a leading underscore by the compiler) when they are
mentioned in a `.def` file without the leading underscore.  This is an
[under-documented feature][1] of MSVC's `link.exe`.  C++Builder's
`ilink32.exe` doesn't do this, and thus needs the name-translation in
the `.def` file.  Then `implib.exe` needs to be told to re-add it.

(The Clang-based `bcc32c.exe` doesn't implement the [`-vu` or `-u-`][2]
options to skip adding the leading underscore to `__cdecl` C function
names, so this is the only way to have things work with non-underscored
export names in the DLLs.)

ef161e7b8f Unix Makefile generator: separate "simple" shared libraries from import libraries
For Unix like environments, we may have so called "simple" shared
library names (libfoo.so as opposed to libfoo.so.1.2), or we may have
"import" library names associated with a DLL (libfoo.dll.a for
libfoo.dll on Mingw and derivatives).

So far, "import" library names were treated the same as "simple"
shared library names, as some kind of normalization for the Unix way
of doing things.

We now shift to treat them separately, to make it clearer what is
what.

e841938349 Building: Fix the library file names for MSVC builds to include multilib
In OpenSSL 1.1.1, VC-WIN64I and VC-WIN64A have a 'multilib' attribute
set, which affect the names of the produced libcrypto and libssl DLLs.
This restores that for OpenSSL 3.0.

e805c2d6d3 Build files: Make it possible to source libraries into other libraries
Added functionality to use static libraries as source for other
libraries.  When done this way, the target library will use the object
files from the sourced static libraries, making the sourced libraries
work as "containers" for object files.

We also need to make sure that the Unix Makefile template knows how to
deal with shared libraries and modules that depend on static libraries.
That's new situation we haven't had before.

26de4ec68f Configure: AIX needs a specific DSO extension function
DSO extensions are normally derived from platform->shlibextsimple() on
Unix.  This isn't the case for AIX, so it needs to define its own DSO
extension specifically.

9dd4ed28eb Rework building: Unix changes to handle extensions and product names
Add platform::Unix, which is a generic Unix module to support product
name and extensions functionlity.  However, this isn't quite enough,
as mingw and Cygwin builds are done using the same templates, but
since shared libraries work as on Windows and are named accordingly,
platform::mingw and platform::Cygwin were also added to provide the
necessary tweaks.

This reworks Configurations/unix-Makefile.tmpl to work out product
names in platform::Unix et al terms.  In this one, we currently do
care about the *_extension config attributes, and the modules adapt
accordingly where it matters.

This change also affected crypto/include/internal/dso_conf.h.in, since
the DSO extension is meant to be the same as the short shared library
extension, which isn't '.so' everywhere.

'shared_extension' attributes that had the value
'.so.\$(SHLIB_VERSION_NUMBER)' are removed, platform::Unix provides
an extension where the shared library version number is hard-coded
instead.

c162a8c344 Rework building: VMS changes to handle extensions and product names
Add platform::VMS, which is a generic VMS module.  Additional modules
to support specific building aspects (such as specific compilers) may
be added later, but since we currently work on file names and those
are generic enough, this is also enough.

This reworks Configurations/descrip.mms.tmpl to work out product names
in platform::VMS terms.  Something to be noted is that the new
functionality ignores the *_extension config attributes, as they were
never used.  VMS is very consistent in its use of extensions, so there
is no reason to believe much will change in this respect.

d7e4932eaf Rework building: initial changes
This is the start of a major work to correct some quirks in the
buiding system.  The base for this is to move certain attributes that
lack desired flexibility from Configurations/*.conf to perl modules
that can be selected with one single attribute in the config targets.

The way this is meant to work is by adding this attribute in select
config targets:

    perl_module         => 'Name';      # Name to be replaced

Then, in the perl scripts or modules that need the functionality,
these lines should be added:

    use lib catdir($srcdir, 'Configurations');	# Ensure access to platform.pm
    use lib $blddir;    # Ensure access to configdata.pm
    use platform;       # Will load platform::$target{perl_module}
