4977b4e928 PEM_def_callback(): don't loop because of too short password given
That error is already caught by EVP_read_pw_string_min, and causes
this function to return -1, so the code detecting too short passwords
in this function is practically dead.

b0143b9752 Fix type error in PEM processing
The get_name() helper was using a variable of type size_t to hold the
result of BIO_gets(), but BIO_gets() returns int and makes use of negative
values to indicate error conditions.

Change the type of the local variable to match, and propagate that
through to other places in the file to avoid -Wsign-compare issues.

a1df06b363 This has been added to avoid the situation where some host ctype.h functions
return true for characters > 127. I.e. they are allowing extended ASCII
characters through which then cause problems. E.g. marking superscript '2' as
a number then causes the common (ch - '0') conversion to number to fail
miserably. Likewise letters with diacritical marks can also cause problems.

If a non-ASCII character set is being used (currently only EBCDIC), it is
adjusted for.

The implementation uses a single table with a bit for each of the defined
classes. These functions accept an int argument and fail for
values out of range or for characters outside of the ASCII set. They will
work for both signed and unsigned character inputs.

75e2c87765 Switch from ossl_rand to DRBG rand
If RAND_add wraps around, XOR with existing. Add test to drbgtest that
does the wrap-around.

Re-order seeding and stop after first success.

Add RAND_poll_ex()

Use the DF and therefore lower RANDOMNESS_NEEDED. Also, for child DRBG's,
mix in the address as the personalization bits.

Centralize the entropy callbacks, from drbg_lib to rand_lib.
(Conceptually, entropy is part of the enclosing application.)
Thanks to Dr. Matthias St Pierre for the suggestion.

Various code cleanups:
-Make state an enum; inline RANDerr calls.
-Add RAND_POLL_RETRIES (thanks Pauli for the idea)
-Remove most RAND_seed calls from rest of library
    -Rename DRBG_CTX to RAND_DRBG, etc.
-Move some code from drbg_lib to drbg_rand; drbg_lib is now only the
     implementation of NIST DRBG.
    -Remove blocklength

'no-ui' / 'disable-ui' is now an alias for 'no-ui-console' /

44612e0a81 Make PEM_read_{,bio_}PrivateKey use secmem
We now have a version of PEM_read_bytes that can use temporary
buffers allocated from the secure heap; use them to handle this
sensitive information.

Note that for PEM_read_PrivateKey, the i/o still goes through
stdio since the input is a FILE pointer. Standard I/O performs
additional buffering, which cannot be changed to use the OpenSSL
secure heap for temporary storage. As such, it is recommended
to use BIO_new_file() and PEM_read_bio_PrivateKey() instead.

204afd81b1 Add PEM_read_bio_ex
The extended function includes a 'flags' argument to allow callers
to specify different requested behaviors. In particular, callers can
request that temporary storage buffers are allocated from the secure heap,
which could be relevant when loading private key material.

use some helper routines to reduce the overall function length, and make

b01e1644d7 Fix: PEM_read_bio_PrivateKey with no-ui / no-stdio
If openssl is compiled with no-ui or no-stdio, then PEM_read_bio_PrivateKey fails if a password but no callback is provided.

The reason is that the premature return in the PEM_def_callback implementation when OPENSSL_NO_STDIO or OPENSSL_NO_UI is defined, comes too early.

This patch moves the ifdef block to the correct place.

This takes us away from the idea that we know exactly how our static
libraries are going to get used. Instead, we make them available to
build shareable things with, be it other shared libraries or DSOs.

On the other hand, we also have greater control of when the shared
library cflags. They will never be used with object files meant got
binaries, such as apps/openssl or test/test*.

With unified, we take this a bit further and prepare for having to
deal with extra cflags specifically to be used with DSOs (dynamic

984d6c6052 Fix no-stdio build
Much related/similar work also done by
Ivan Nestlerode <ivan.nestlerode@sonos.com>

+Replace FILE BIO's with dummy ops that fail.
+Include <stdio.h> for sscanf() even with no-stdio (since the declaration
is there). We rely on sscanf() to parse the OPENSSL_ia32cap environment
variable, since it can be larger than a 'long'. And we don't rely on the
    availability of strtoull().
   +Remove OPENSSL_stderr(); not used.
+Make OPENSSL_showfatal() do nothing (currently without stdio there's
    nothing we can do).
   +Remove file-based functionality from ssl/. The function
prototypes were already gone, but not the functions themselves.
+Remove unviable conf functionality via SYS_UEFI
   +Add fallback definition of BUFSIZ.
+Remove functions taking FILE * from header files.
   +Add missing DECLARE_PEM_write_fp_const
   +Disable X509_LOOKUP_hash_dir(). X509_LOOKUP_file() was already compiled out,
    so remove its prototype.
   +Use OPENSSL_showfatal() in CRYPTO_destroy_dynlockid().
+Eliminate SRP_VBASE_init() and supporting functions. Users will need to
    build the verifier manually instead.
+Eliminate compiler warning for unused do_pk8pkey_fp().
   +Disable TEST_ENG_OPENSSL_PKEY.
+Disable GOST engine as is uses [f]printf all over the place.
+Eliminate compiler warning for unused send_fp_chars().

0f539dc1a2 Fix the update target and remove duplicate file updates
We had updates of certain header files in both Makefile.org and the
Makefile in the directory the header file lived in. This is error
prone and also sometimes generates slightly different results (usually
just a comment that differs) depending on which way the update was
done.

This removes the file update targets from the top level Makefile, adds
an update: target in all Makefiles and has it depend on the depend: or
local_depend: targets, whichever is appropriate, so we don't get a
double run through the whole file tree.

4c9b0a0314 Initialize potentially uninitialized local variables
Compiling OpenSSL code with MSVC and /W4 results in a number of warnings.
One category of warnings is particularly interesting - C4701 (potentially
uninitialized local variable 'name' used). This warning pretty much means
that there's a code path which results in uninitialized variables being used
or returned. Depending on compiler, its options, OS, values in registers
and/or stack, the results can be nondeterministic. Cases like this are very
hard to debug so it's rational to fix these issues.

This patch contains a set of trivial fixes for all the C4701 warnings (just
initializing variables to 0 or NULL or appropriate error code) to make sure
that deterministic values will be returned from all the execution paths.

RT#3835

Signed-off-by: Matt Caswell <matt@openssl.org>

Matt's note: All of these appear to be bogus warnings, i.e. there isn't
actually a code path where an unitialised variable could be used - its just
that the compiler hasn't been able to figure that out from the logic. So
this commit is just about silencing spurious warnings.
