Bug fix.
Description:
PGI v6.0-5 pgf90 compiler has a bug in Mstandard that caused compiling
of legal logical value to fail.
We also have second thought of imposing -Mstandard and -Mdclchk on users
since these flags are included in h5fc.
Solution:
Removed -Mstandard until we can fix the v6.0-5 compiler error
and moved -Mdclchk to DEBUG_FFLAGS so that it is used during development
mode but not imposed on users for production release.
Platforms tested:
heping: production and development mode using v6.0-4 compiler.
mir: production and development mode using v6.0-4 compiler.

Bug fix.
Description:
The previous way of detecting the MPICH version fails if the suspected
$CC does not give the expected MPICH version information. Though no
consequence, it generates error messages that alarm users.
Also, mpich2 gives the version information as if it were mpich v1.0.2
which was incorrectly included as an earlier version of the origianl
mpich.
Solution:
Implemented a more robust code to detect the version and narrow the
recognition down to v1.2.0-v1.2.5. Also, the code were duplicated in
two files (linux-gnulibc1 and ia64-linux-gnu). Combined them into a
new file called mpich.
Platforms tested:
Tested in heping using mpicc and mpich2/mpicc and also in tg-ncsa.

Updated MANIFEST.
Description:

Bug fix
Description:
Fixed config file for apple powerpcs. Should detect xlf more
often (though not infallibly).
Should disable shared libraries when xlf is being used.
Solution:
Since neither xlf nor f95 have "version" options (which could
be used to identify which compiler is being used), the config
file checks if the fortran compiler is named 'xlf' (or /path/xlf).
If not, it assumes the compiler must be f95.
xlf is still the default if no compiler is named at all.

Description:
When a parallel test script test fails, make would continue because the

Description:

Platforms tested:

Bug fixes
Description:
This checkin fixes an occasional error on kelgia on sol during distclean.
It also causes test scripts to depend properly on the programs they're
supposed to be testing.
Solution:
The kelgia bug was due to some files being cleaned by automake and manually.
Removed the manual cleaning in src/Makefile.am.
Test script dependencies now need to be specified manually, since the
makefile can't guess what they test from their name. Currently all test
scripts in a given directory have a single list of dependencies--this was
easy and seems to be sufficient.
These dependencies are listed in the SCRIPT_DEPEND variable in the Makefile.am.

Misc. update:
Description: Added 2 new configure options, --enable-exception and --enable-accuracy.
--enable-exception lets the library check whether user's exception handling
functions are present during compiler data conversions and use them if they are.
When it's disabled, this step is skipped to improve conversion speed. This
step isn't implemented yet for soft conversions because there would be little
gain in speed.
--enable-accuracy guarantees data accuracy during data conversions. It means
the library will choose compiler conversions only if the accurate data is
secured. Otherwise, the library will go for the library's own conversions. If
this option is disabled, the library uses compiler conversions in favor of
their speed as long as they work even if data can be incorrect.
Platforms tested: h5committest and fuss. Some systems may fail after this
checkin.

Misc. update:
Makefile feature
Description:
'make check-clean' now cleans *.h5 files created by tests as well as
.log and .chkexe files.
Solution:
check-clean is now a separate target in its own right, which cleans less
than mostlyclean (check-clean < mostlyclean < clean < distclean).
Platforms tested:
mir, heping, modi4 (serial and parallel)
Feature: check-clean target
Description:
'make check-clean' cleans up output files from tests.
Solution:
Tests create foo.chkexe and foo.log files. Scripts create foo.chksh and
foo.logsh files. 'make check-clean' will clean these files up so that
the tests can be re-run.
Also suppressed some not-very-useful output of Makefiles when it would
echo commands.

Misc. update:
Configuration feature
Description:
Serial test output is now stored in log files and printed when all tests
in a directory complete, or when a test fails. This should make test output
more readable and useful.
Also made changes to clean up ii_files directories that are created by some
C++ compilers/linkers.
Also fixed a few minor Makefile bugs.
Solution:
When serial tests run, their output is saved in *.log or *.logsh. While
running, tests only print when they begin and when they complete; their
more specific output (from the log file) is printed if the test fails or
when all tests have completed.

Feature: tests now use parallel make and only run once
Description:
When make is invoked in parallel (using the -j option), several tests will
now be run simultaneously. This should speed up testing on a number of
systems.
When a test passes, it creates a foo.chkexe or foo.chksh file, which prevents
the test from running again unless the test or library changes.
Solution:
Most of the changes live in config/conclude.am. Added *.chkexe and *.chksh
files to the list of files to be cleaned at "make mostlyclean" time.
Parallel tests still run one at a time, but use the same make instructions
as serial tests.

Misc. update:
Description: This commit is actually revision 1.155, which is the 3rd step of
changing conversion test. It's for conversion from floating-point to integer.
In this step, the source buffer is filled in with normalized and denormalized
floating-point values. For the normalized values, it starts from FLT(DBL, or
LDBL)_MIN, multiplied by 10(10000 for double, 100000000 for long double) for
the next value, until reaches to FLT_MAX. For denormalized values, the
exponent part is always 0. Mantissa part starts with 000...001, 000...011,
000...111, until reaches to 111...111. The same is with negative values.

Automake version upgrade
Description:
Upgraded automake version from 1.6.2 to 1.9.5.
Changed bin/reconfigure script to use automake 1.9.5.
Changed configure.in and Makefiles to use new FCFLAGS and FC variables
instead of FFLAGS and F9X.
Automake and configure should now do the lion's share of the work
supporting Fortran 9X; macros in acsite.m4 are now mostly unused (will
be cleaned later).
Altered how configure handles pmake; now root-level Makefile.in is
processed by bin/reconfigure to have a .MAKEFLAGS target, since
automake no longer allows us to define unused variables.
Configure now always checks for C++ compiler even if it is not
used, since automake thinks this is the Right Thing To Do and
will break otherwise.

Bug fix
Description:
This checkin addresses two bugs.
Firstly, I used the wrong semantics when detecting if $MAKE is defined to
the empty string or undefined.
Secondly, pmake on IRIX does not work well with automake's dependency tracking
if the build is not an in-place build.
Solution:
Fixed semantics in configure.in.
Disabled automatic dependency tracking automatically on IRIX. This is not
the optimal fix, but it should work fine as long as no one is doing HDF5
development on IRIX, and it is much easier than trying to detect the exact
situations in which dependency tracking fails (or than trying to fix dependency
tracking!).
Platforms tested:
heping, modi4 (pmake and gmake)
Bug fix
Description:
pmake (on modi4, for instance) complains about undefined variables
if it is run without the -V flag, which turns those errors to warnings.
Solution:
Added test to configure.in to see if $MAKE will allow Makefiles
with undefined variables. If not, sets -V flag in AM_MAKEFLAGS.
Ensured that all custom make targets use AM_MAKEFLAGS.
Also defined all variables that caused errors in top-level Makefile.am.
This means that pmake can be used to build hdf5 *from the top level
only*. To run make from a subdirectory, still need to use -V flag
(or use make or gmake).
