26d0f66a45 [svn-r477] Changed the way file-space allocation for the data part of a dataset.
H5D.c:
    Created a new function H5D_allocation to do allocation of all datasets.
    According to the storage layout, it calls the appropriate function.

H5Fprivate.h:
H5Fistore.c:
    H5F_istore_allocation now takes a dimension array, (old version
    used a space pointer) to determine how many chunks to allocate.
    Changed H5F_istore_get_addr to a private (static) function.  No
    one outside of H5Fistore.c is calling it.
    Removed three forward declarations now that they are not needed.

	Added H5Pset_alignment() so that it is now possible to align
	file allocation requests on application-specified
	boundaries. Any request >= the specified threshold will begin
	on an address which is a multiple of the specified
	alignment. Defaults are one for threshold and alignment. The
	alignment is done on relative addresses, so the size of the
	user block can affect the location of the data in the file.

	Added a test for, and fixed the data space caching bug in
	datasets.  Extending a dataset through one handle will cause
	all other handles to the same dataset to get the new dataset
	size.

	Made `--enable-parallel' the default on my system.  It used to

dadb964ba6 [svn-r411] Added data-transfer-mode to various function to specify which
mode to use for data transfer.  Currently, INDEPENDENT transfer
is the default mode.  Collective is supported for files opened
via the MPIO driver.  Specific changes to individual files follow.


H5D.c:
    Replaced previous kludge of passing xfer_mode via the file access_mode
    with xfer_mode function parameter all the way to the low level I/O
    drivers.

H5Dprivate.h:
    The H5D_xfer_t.xfer_mode is now used in serial and parallel modes.
    Removed the "HAVE_PARALLEL" macro condition to support it.

H5Dpublic.h:
    Added H5D_XFER_DFLT as a new value for H5D_transfer_t and removed
    the HAVE_PARALLEL condition macro to make the H5D_transfer_t
    definition available to both serial and parallel version.

	(press return between plots). Postscript files are created for
	each plot.

	In the past we were allowed to have >2GB files on a 32-bit
	machine as long as no dataset within the file was larger than
	4GB (or whatever sizeof(size_t) is).  That's been fixed now.
	All dataset size calculations are done with `hsize_t' which is
	normally defined as `unsigned long long'.

	The file family member size can now be set/queried.  The
	default is still 64MB, but it can be set to 1GB by saying:

	determines the bits-per-member, which can be retrieved with
	H5Pget_family().

	Added `--disable-hsizet' so that those with old GCC compilers
	(<2.8.1) can still compile the code.

	Added HDfprintf() which works just like fprintf() except you
	can give `H' as a size modifier for the integer conversions
	and supply an `hsize_t' or `hssize_t' argument without casting
	it.  For instance:

	    hsize_t npoints = H5Sget_npoints(space);
	    HDfprintf(stdout,"Dataset has %Hd (%#018Hx) points\n",
		      npoints, npoints);

	You can now give `%a' as a format to print an address, but all
	formating flags are ignored and it causes the return value of
	HDfprintf() to not include the characters in the address (but
	who uses the return value anyway :-). Example:

	    H5G_t *grp;
	    HDfprintf(stdout, "Group object header at %a\n",
	              &(grp->ent.header));

	Added HDstrtoll() which works exactly like [HD]strtol() except
	the result is an int64.

	Large addresses can now be entered from the command-line.  Use
	either decimal, octal (leading `0') or hexadecimal (leading
	`0x') when giving the address.

	The printf format for dataset dimensions was changed to `%Hu'
	to support large datasets.

	A test for big datasets on 32-bit machines.  This test is not
	run by default.  Don't try to run it on an nfs-mounted file
	system or other file system that doesn't support holes because
	it creates two 32GB datasets of all zero.

	Anything having to do with the size of a dataset now uses the
	types `hsize_t' and `hssize_t' which must be the same size and
	at least as large as `size_t'.  This isn't fully tested yet,
	so hsize_t and hssize_t are defined as size_t and ssize_t in
	H5public.h.  Setting them to larger values will trip up gcc
	versions less than 2.8.1 on x86 platforms.

	Documented unused function formals with `__unused__' before
	the formal name.  This also has the effect of supressing
	warning messages for gcc since it's defined to be
	`__attribute__((unused))' in the H5private.h file.

Added modification entry to H5F_open header.  Should have been done
    when i added the access template argument.

H5Fprivate.h:
    The hardcode setting to "define MPIO as the default IO
    when HAVE_PARALLEL is set" cause all test programs to fail since
    none of them is coded with the needed MPI_Initialize.  Change it
    back to the previous setting of using sequential I/O allows user
    to use sequential I/O by default and use MPIO only if he/she explicitely
    asks for it via access template setting.

	is now a struct, so you can no longer perform arithmetic on
	it. But since it's small, simple, and often used, storage is

	Understands files without directories. The root object
	(directory or not) can be found by asking for `/' (or any
	equivalent absolute or relative name like `/.//.///' or
	`.//.///' (if the cwd is the root)) or by name like `/foo' (or
	any other equivalent absolute or relative name) if the object
	has a name message with the value `foo'.  This function is
	used by most of the other H5G functions so they now understand
	directory-less files too.

	H5G_new()
	---------
	Creates the root directory implicitly if it doesn't already
	exist, moving any previous non-directory root object into the
	new root directory before creating the requested directory
	within the root.  The creation of the root directory happens
	first, regardless of whether the requested directory creation
	succeeds.  Once the root directory is created it never
	disappears even if the file later has only one object.  This
	"feature" can be used to force a file to have a root directory
	by saying something like:

	  H5G_new (..., "/", ...);
	  H5ECLEAR; /*we don't care about the H5E_EXISTS failure*/

	The H5G_new() in the previous example fails because the root
	directory is created implicitly before we attempt to create
	the requested "/" directory.

	H5G_find()
	----------
	Understands files without directories.  If there is no root
	object then this function is guaranteed to fail even if the
	request is for `/'.  As mentioned for H5G_namei(), the root
	object can be retrieved with `/' or `/foo' (or equivalent
	absolute or relative names).

	H5G_insert()
	------------
	Understands files without directories and attempts to create
	such files when there is only one object.  The root symbol
	table is created implicitly when necessary.

	A root object can be given a name message by the caller and
	then inserted with the name `/' or it can be inserted with
	the name `/foo' in which case H5G_insert() will set the name
	message to `foo'.

	H5G_modify()
	------------
	Understands files without directories.
