Generate c for feature instead of tdesc
This patch changes Makefile and command "maint print c-files" so that GDB can print c files for features instead target description. Previously, we feed GDB a target description xml file, which generate c files including multiple features. With this patch, in Makefile, we wrap each feature xml file, and create a temp target description which include only one feature. Then, adjust the target description printer for them, and print a c function for each given feature, so that we can use these c functions later to create target description in a flexible way. gdb: 2017-07-26 Yao Qi <yao.qi@linaro.org> * features/Makefile (CFILES): Rename with TDESC_CFILES. Use visitor pattern for "maint print c-tdesc"
Target description can be modeled as a tree, the target description is the root node, features are children nodes, registers and types are grand-children nodes. So command "maint print c-tdesc" in effect traverse/visit each node, and print them in c. This can be implemented by visitor pattern, this is the first reason. Secondly, I want to this command prints c files in a different way for some specific xml files, but still print c files the same way for the rest of xml files. Third, I even want to print xml files from target descriptions, so that GDBserver can use it to reply GDB's query qXfer:features:read:target.xml. gdb: 2017-07-26 Yao Qi <yao.qi@linaro.org> * target-descriptions.c (tdesc_element_visitor): New class. Add optional argument to command "maint prints c-tdesc"
Nowadays, we need two steps to print c files for xml target description, that is, 1) read xml target description in, update the current tdesc, 2) visit the current tdesc, print the c file. It is unnecessary to involve in current tdesc, and some validations in each gdbarch are performed unnecessarily, which will reject some target descriptions if they are missing some mandatory feature. This patch adds an optional argument to "maint print c-tdesc", which is an XML file target description, so that we can combine the two steps above into one step, and don't have to involve in global current tdesc. gdb: 2017-07-26 Yao Qi <yao.qi@linaro.org> * NEWS: Mention it. * features/Makefile (%.c: %.xml): Pass the xml file name to command "maint print c-tdesc". * target-descriptions.c (maint_print_c_tdesc_cmd): Get file name from 'arg'. gdb/doc: 2017-07-26 Yao Qi <yao.qi@linaro.org> * gdb.texinfo (Maintenance Commands): Document optional argument of "maint print c-tdesc". |

Add support for Intel PKRU register to GDB and GDBserver.
This patch adds support for the registers added by the Memory Protection Keys for Userspace (PKU aka PKEYs) feature. Native and remote debugging are covered by this patch. The XSAVE area is extended with a new state containing the 32-bit wide PKRU register. The new register is added to amd64-avx-mpx_avx512-* tdesc, thus it is renamed accordingly. Also, respective xstate mask X86_XSTATE_AVX_MPX_AVX512_MASK is renamed to X86_XSTATE_AVX_MPX_AVX512_PKU_MASK to reflect the new feature set it supports. Add target description for avx-avx512.
Add a dedicated target description for the feature combination avx-avx512 as implemented by certain IA CPU models. The corresponding X86_XSTATE_AVX_AVX512_MASK already exists, but shared the tdesc with X86_XSTATE_AVX_MPX_AVX512_MASK. This caused MPX registers displayed as undefined on CPUs that only implemented X86_XSTATE_AVX_AVX512_MASK, which is undesired. This patch solves this issue. This patch also corrects the wrong usage of x32-avx-mpx-avx512, which is replaced by x32-avx-avx512. The MPX feature is not implemented in x32 mode. gdb/Changelog: 2016-04-18 Michael Sturm <michael.sturm@intel.com> * amd64-linux-tdep.c (features/i386/amd64-avx-avx512-linux.c): New include. Rename target descriptions to reflect actual content of description.
To better reflect the actual feature set covered by the IA target descriptions, the existing descriptions are renamed. Each feature of the extended state is added to the name of a description or xstate mask starting from AVX. For example, amd64-mpx-avx512-linux becomes amd64-avx-mpx-avx512-linux, while amd64-avx-linux remains unchanged. Likewise, the corresponding xstate masks are changed, e.g. from X86_XSTATE_MPX_AVX512_MASK to X86_XSTATE_AVX_MPX_AVX512_MASK. gdb/Changelog: 2016-04-18 Michael Sturm <michael.sturm@intel.com> * amd64-linux-tdep.c (features/i386/amd64-avx512-linux.c): Rename include to... Simplify i386, amd64 and x32 expedite registers
Nowadays, there are a lot of duplication about i386/{i386, amd64, x32}*-expedite in features/Makefile. However, in features/Makefile, we have echo "expedite:$(if $($*-expedite),$($*-expedite),$($(firstword $(subst -, ,$(notdir $*)))-expedite))" \ >> $(outdir)/$*.tmp which means for a given bar/foo-baz.xml, we'll look for either bar/foo-baz-expedite or foo-expedite. In x86 expedite registers, we use the former now, but it will be much simpler if we use the latter. This is what this patch does. This patch removes them, and defines three generic expedite. Re-run 'make GDB=/path/build/gdb all' to regenerate regformats/*.dat files, and they are not changed. gdb: 2016-10-05 Yao Qi <yao.qi@linaro.org> * features/Makefile: Remove i386/*-expedite. arc: New Synopsys ARC port
ARC is a family of licensable processors developed by Synopsys. This is an initial patch that doesn't yet support some of the features, that are already available in Synopsys' fork of GDB, namely: * longjmp support * signal frame handling * prologue analysis * Linux targets support * native Linux support ARC cores are configurable and extensible, which means from debugger perspective that some registers and debug capabilities are optional, therefore it is up to the GDB stub to determine exact list of register available on target and supply it to GDB via XML target descriptions. List of registers that is known to GDB and is required is intentionally kept small to simplify requirements to GDB stub and implementation of a GDB client. gdb/ChangeLog: * Makefile.in (ALL_TARGET_OBS): Add arc-tdep.o. Set architecture to arm in arm-*.xml files
This patch is to add the following line to various arm target description xml files, <architecture>arm</architecture> in order to fix problems I've seen on aarch64 multi-arch debugging, detach^M Detaching from program: build-gdb/gdb/testsuite/gdb.base/attach, process 17145^M (gdb) PASS: gdb.base/attach.exp: attach1 detach file^M No executable file now.^M Architecture of file not recognized.^M (gdb) FAIL: gdb.base/attach.exp: attach1, purging symbols after detach Without this patch, struct target_desc *tdesc_* are not initialised properly, that is, fields arch and osabi in 'struct target_desc' are not set properly. This doesn't cause any problems on single arch debugging, because arch-utils.c:gdbarch_info_fill will guess correctly. However, in multi-arch debugging, gdbarch_info_fill gets the aarch64 arch, but the target description is for arm (because the current inferior is 32-bit arm). It is a surprise to me we didn't set architecture to "arm" before in *.xml files, and I didn't find out why didn't do so. AFAICS, gdb/features/arm-with-iwmmxt.xml was added firstly (in patch https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2007-01/msg00593.html) which had <architecture>iwmmxt</architecture>, however, afterwards, architecture isn't set anymore in features/arm-*.xml files (in patches https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2009-07/msg00689.html and https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2010-08/msg00225.html). gdb: 2015-07-07 Yao Qi <yao.qi@linaro.org> * features/arm-with-m-fpa-layout.xml: Set architecture to arm. * features/arm-with-m-fpa-layout.c: Regenerated. * features/arm-with-m-vfp-d16.xml: Likewise. * features/arm-with-m-vfp-d16.c: Regenerated. * features/arm-with-m.xml: Likewise. * features/arm-with-m.c: Regenerated. * features/arm-with-neon.xml: Likewise. * features/arm-with-neon.c: Regenerated. * features/arm-with-vfpv2.xml: Likewise. * features/arm-with-vfpv2.c: Regenerated. * features/arm-with-vfpv3.xml: Likewise. * features/arm-with-vfpv3.c: Regenerated. |

Exported const objects
const works different in C vs C++. In C++, a global "const" variable has internal linkage by default, resulting in link errors like: ... extension.o: In function `get_ext_lang_defn(extension_language)': gdb/extension.c:126: undefined reference to `extension_language_guile' gdb/extension.c:124: undefined reference to `extension_language_guile' ... The fix is to define exported const objects with "extern const". But that in C would not be a definition. So we need to #ifdef C vs C++ in this case. EXPORTED_CONST comes from include/ansidecl.h, but in the feature_to_c.sh case I think it's better to leave the script with no dependencies. gdb/ChangeLog: 2015-02-27 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * cp-valprint.c (vtbl_ptr_name): Use EXPORTED_CONST. * guile/guile.c (extension_language_guile): Use EXPORTED_CONST. * features/feature_to_c.sh: Tag the generated xml_builtin array with extern const in C++ mode. |

record btrace: add configuration struct

features/Makefile: Make 'make cfiles' default to generating all C files
This makes it easier to rebuild all GDB's generated target description C files. It also clarifies the comments a bit. One might think we need a GDB configured for the particular arquitecture (--target=foo). But a build that includes support for the target description is sufficient. (GDB rejects target descriptions that explicitly specify the architecture, with an <architecture> element, if the architecture is unknown.) Tested that "make clean-cfiles" deletes all .c files under src/gdb/features/, and that "make cfiles" generates them all without error, and that diffing the newly generated C files against master comes out an empty diff. gdb/ 2014-10-01 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * features/Makefile: Update comments. gdb/regformats: Don't build .dat files that aren't used by GDBserver
The only reason .dat files exist is for GBBserver to use them in its build system. A few .dat files are listed as targets for generation that shouldn't. The target descriptions these files are built from aren't used by GDBserver. They're fallback descriptions GDB itself has baked in. Remove them from the list of .dat files to be generated, otherwise a plain "make" under src/gdb/features/ generates new .dat files that aren't even in the tree today. gdb/ 2014-10-01 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * features/Makefile (WHICH): Remove arm-with-m, arm-with-m-fpa-layout and arm-with-m-vfp-d16. |

Fix for remote G Packet message too long error for baremetal.
Prior to version MicroBlaze v8.10.a,EDK 13.1, XMD's gdbserver stub returned 57 registers in response to GDB's G request. Starting with version MicroBlaze v8.10.a, EDK 13.1, XMD added the slr and shr register, for a count of 59 registers. This patch adds these registers to the expected G response. This patch fixes the above problem for baremetal and also supports the backward compatibility. Add AVX512 registers support to GDB and GDBserver.
This patch adds support for the Intel(R) Advanced Vector Extensions 512 (Intel(R) AVX-512) registers. Native and remote debugging are covered by this patch. Intel(R) AVX-512 is an extension to AVX to support 512-bit wide SIMD registers in 64-bit mode (XMM0-XMM31, YMM0-YMM31, ZMM0-ZMM31). The number of available registers in 32-bit mode is still 8 (XMM0-7, YMM0-7, ZMM0-7). The lower 256-bits of the ZMM registers are aliased to the respective 256-bit YMM registers. The lower 128-bits are aliased to the respective 128-bit XMM registers. There are also 8 new, dedicated mask registers (K0-K7) in both 32-bit mode and 64-bit mode. [AArch64] Remove all traces of aarch64-without-fpu.xml.
The aarch64-without-fpu description is unused. Linux requires an FPU, so the AArch64 native port always returns the with-fpu variant: static const struct target_desc * aarch64_linux_read_description (struct target_ops *ops) { initialize_tdesc_aarch64 (); return tdesc_aarch64; } When the target doesn't report a target description at all, we fallback to a register set with an FPU: aarch64_gdbarch_init () ... if (!tdesc_has_registers (tdesc)) tdesc = tdesc_aarch64; This just removes the dead description. Tested by building on x86_64 Fedora 17 with --enable=targets=all. gdb/ 2013-05-29 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * aarch64-tdep.c: Don't include "features/aarch64-without-fpu.c". Generate regformats/rs6000/powerpc-32.dat
I will need this description for the ppc-lynxos debugger where, AFAICT, we only have access to the core GP and FP registers. So this adds powerpc-32 to the list of targets for which a .dat file needs to be generated. 2010-04-30 Joel Brobecker <brobecker@adacore.com> * features/Makefile (WHICH): Add rs6000/powerpc-32. (powerpc-32.o, powerpc-32.c): New rules. (clean): Also remove powerpc-32.c. * regformats/rs6000/powerpc-32.dat: Generate. |
