PR 32603, ld -w misbehaviour
ld -w currently causes segmentation faults and other misbehaviour since it changes einfo with %F in the format string (fatal error) to not exit. This patch fixes that by introducing a new variant of einfo called "fatal" that always exits, and replaces all einfo calls using %F with a call to fatal without the %F. I considered modifying einfo to inspect the first 2 or 4 chars in the format string, looking for %F, but decided that was probably a bad idea given that translators might have moved the %F. It's also a little nicer to inform the compiler of a function that doesn't return. The patch also fixes some formatting nits, and makes use of %pA to print section names in a couple of places in aix.em. |

ld: Put all emulation options in ldlex.h
For each command line option, parse_args() calls ldemul_parse_args()
to check if the command line option is an emulation option. But when
there is a conflict between the emulation option value and the default
option value, the default command line option will be processed as if
the emulation option is used. Remove PARSE_AND_LIST_PROLOGUE and move
all emulation options to ldlex.h to avoid conflicts.

Update year range in copyright notice of binutils files
Adds two new external authors to etc/update-copyright.py to cover bfd/ax_tls.m4, and adds gprofng to dirs handled automatically, then updates copyright messages as follows: 1) Update cgen/utils.scm emitted copyrights. 2) Run "etc/update-copyright.py --this-year" with an extra external author I haven't committed, 'Kalray SA.', to cover gas testsuite files (which should have their copyright message removed). 3) Build with --enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes. 4) Check out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently. |

The result of running etc/update-copyright.py --this-year, fixing all the files whose mode is changed by the script, plus a build with --enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes, then checking out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently. The copy of cgen was with commit d1dd5fcc38ead reverted as that commit breaks building of bfp opcodes files. |

SHF_LINK_ORDER fixup_link_order in ld
This moves the SHF_LINK_ORDER sorting from bfd_elf_final_link to
the linker which means generic ELF targets now support SHF_LINK_ORDER
and we cope with odd cases that require resizing of output sections.
The patch also fixes two bugs in the current implementation,
introduced by commit

ld --help output
It's best if help message output does not contain tabs, since we don't know tab stop settings or even if tabs are handled by the output device. bfd_section_* macros
This large patch removes the unnecessary bfd parameter from various bfd section macros and functions. The bfd is hardly ever used and if needed for the bfd_set_section_* or bfd_rename_section functions can be found via section->owner except for the com, und, abs, and ind std_section special sections. Those sections shouldn't be modified anyway. The patch also removes various bfd_get_section_<field> macros, replacing their use with bfd_section_<field>, and adds bfd_set_section_lma. I've also fixed a minor bug in gas where compressed section renaming was done directly rather than calling bfd_rename_section. This would have broken bfd_get_section_by_name and similar functions, but that hardly mattered at such a late stage in gas processing. bfd/ * bfd-in.h (bfd_get_section_name, bfd_get_section_vma), (bfd_get_section_lma, bfd_get_section_alignment), (bfd_get_section_size, bfd_get_section_flags), (bfd_get_section_userdata): Delete. Move elf32.em and elf-generic.em functions
Many ELF linker targets support multiple "emulations" and thus have
multiple copies of elf32.em being compiled and linked into ld. This
patch moves much of elf32.em and elf-generic.em into files which will
be compiled just once, resulting in a 20% decrease in ld size for
--enable-targets=all.
* Makefile.am (ALL_EMUL_EXTRA_OFILES): Add ldelf and ldelfgen.
(CFILES, HFILES, EXTRA_ld_new_SOURCES): Likewise.

cskyelf.em branch stub handling
This fixes the csky-elf ld-elf/pr21884 and ld-unique/pr21529 failures, by disabling branch stubs for binary (and other non-csky) output. The csky-linux target gets branch stubs off by default because presumably there are reasons why branch stubs were disabled, but rather than killing the support completely it can be enabled by --branch-stub. * emultempl/cskyelf.em (csk_elf_before_parse): New function, setting use_branch_stub false for linux. (csky_elf_create_output_section_statements): Do emit this function and all others in the file for linux, plus the branch option control. Disable branch stubs when non-ELF. |

Add support for the C_SKY series of processors.
This patch series is a new binutils port for C-SKY processors, including support for both the V1 and V2 processor variants. V1 is derived from the MCore architecture while V2 is substantially different, with mixed 16- and 32-bit instructions, a larger register set, a different (but overlapping) ABI, etc. There is support for bare-metal ELF targets and Linux with both glibc and uClibc.
This code is being contributed jointly by C-SKY Microsystems and Mentor Graphics. C-SKY is responsible for the technical content and has proposed Lifang Xia and Yunhai Shang as port maintainers. (Note that C-SKY does have a corporate copyright assignment on file with the FSF.) Mentor Graphics' role has been cleaning up the code, adding documentation and additional test cases, etc, to address issues we anticipated reviewers would complain about.
